What does it take to make dreams come true? If you've tried wishing, hoping, praying, or crossing your fingers for what you want, and nothing else, you've probably known disappointment and sadness. But starting today, with concrete planning and SMART goal-setting, you can make this year better than last year and every other year before.
Keep in mind--it's not enough to just want your goals. The SMART practice of goal-setting is helpful to make sure you have an action plan to back up your dreams. As you go through the exercise below, keep in mind your plan should be Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Timely.
The path to ultimate transformation and success starts with the clear, written, and publicly stated goals that act as a visual reminder of the importance of what you want to achieve. Grab a pen and paper, and start writing down what you want. Tape those written goals to your refrigerator, post them to your blog, or email them to your friends and family. This will help build your support system from the beginning.
If you have taken the time to think through and make your aspirations clear, you also need to determine the reasons why you must achieve these goals.
Reach into your heart, and visualize the pain you would feel if you never achieved what you desire. You'll find times when you are challenged, when you want to give everything up because it's easier to stay the same than it is to change. If you know WHY you want to change, you'll find the HOW much easier to achieve and you'll be able to persevere.
Here are 21 action steps to transformation and making 2010 an amazing year:
-
Get your weight, body fat, and measurements done by a professional. (Give Us A Call, I'm Happy To Test You!!!)
-
Using appropriate figures for your height and gender, determine your goal weight and body fat percentage. Choose a goal that is realistic, but don't sell yourself short either.
-
Have before photos taken.
-
Go through your photos and find photos that represent the physique that makes you feel your best, and the ones that make you feel your worst. Use these as motivation as you continue on your journey.
-
Determine your lifetime-achievement goal; this is a personal evaluation of where you want to be physically, spiritually, and mentally for the rest of your life--how do you define your whole being?
-
Where would you like to be one year from now?
-
What about 6 months?
-
3 months?
-
1 month?
-
1 week?
-
What do you have to do each day to make your weekly goal?
-
What are the challenges you face each day and how do you plan to overcome them?
-
Pick the things that are keeping you from your daily goal.
-
What are the action steps for each of your challenges? (have 5-10 action steps)
-
Share your goals, challenges, and action steps with 10 others. Tell them how they can help support you on your journey.
-
Write your reasons why you must achieve your goal.
-
Write what you gain from having your goal.
-
Write what others who are close to you will gain by you having your goals met.
-
What will you lose by not reaching your goal?
-
What will the ones close you lose by you not reaching your goal?
-
Start a journal. Decide what you must write about most each day that will give you the best insight into your success and spend 5 minutes writing about that each day.
While it's true that there's a price to be paid for striving for your goals, there is also a price to pay for never taking action at all. You can have a body that you are proud of and you can brag about all your hard work, or you can live a life of regret, shattered dreams, and missed opportunities, all because you are scared to change.
