Dave DePew Enterprises offers several top-notch fitness and nutrition programs making it possible for students to complete their practical education and applications of exercise. We are looking for ambitious, hard-working students that want to gain the best experience and knowledge and participate in hands-on training techniques.
Students in this internship program will learn the most current, well- researched and successful fitness and sports nutrition methodologies, tactics, and strategies for getting people in shape and keeping them involved in the fitness lifestyle. Student will learn to provide the highest levels of practical fitness competence.
This internship program is the best choice for the truly dedicated Fitness Professional! Working with Master Fitness Trainer Dave DePew is a lot of hard work, but the combination of course work and hands on experience will help you excel in the fitness industry. You will work with the entire spectrum of clients, from the health and medical special population group, through the beginner to advanced fitness training, all the way to the elite level amateur and professional athletes! The tremendous magnitude of knowledge, skill, and training you will gain is well worth the time, effort, and energy you invest in this combined program.
Requirements
All requirements will be specific to school internship requirements with emphasis on developing personal training skills and exercise program design. Interns will be trained in both conventional and non conventional techniques in strength training, cardiovascular and flexibility. The majority of the internship will be focused on Boot Camp instruction, Athletic Training, Outdoor Activites and associated administrative duties. Each intern will be provided training in Customer Service and Business Prospecting. Other specialty training may be provided as it may apply.
- Facility Supervision
- Equipment Orientations
- Daily Operations/Maintenance
- Perform complete fitness assessments
- Evaluate and interpret fitness assessment results to clients
- Prescribe exercise programs
- Train individuals one-on-one
- Train small groups 4-6 people
- Train larger groups up to 30 people
- Provide health promotion presentations
- Educational Displays
- Supervise and track members workouts
- Develop home and travel exercise programs for members
- Research questions and concerns related to health, wellness, fitness, nutrition, etc. through use of internet, personal resources, library, etc.
- Watch multiple fitness and assessment DVDs
- Study and review the books/manuals in the training resource library-these include equipment, nutrition, and anatomy books
- Help develop motivational programs
- Help clean and maintain the equipment
- Help schedule and organize seminars and workshops
- Assist in the organizing, planing, implementation and marketing of a special project/program
- Welcome members helping them feel motivated, encourage
- Instruct and monitor proper technique/form, etc.
- Understand confidentiality and record keeping procedures
- Understand basic emergency procedures
Qualifications
Must have one or more of the following:
- Hold a Personal Training Certification Accredited by NOCA/NCCA
- Completed a State Vocational Program or Certificate Program in Personal Training (500 Hours)
- Associates or Baccalaureate Degree in an Exercise Science Related Field of Study
- An Associate or Baccalaureate Degree in Nutrition or equivalent science/health degree
- One year experience as a certified fitness or health professional directly involved in fitness instruction, nutritional counseling, health promotion or health care.
Internship Hours
500 hours or comparable as required through internship.
